Onaka : Beyond Eden

When I found out about Eden Sanctuary's move to China Square Central, I was mildly disturbed.  For someone who live and breathe Rochester Park, a healthier alternative to North Border is essential.  I really love the space Eden used to occupy and glad that Onaka of Biopolis fame has taken over.

Sesame Chicken Sandwich, $9.50

Onaka has an extensive menu with meals of the day options. We had the sesame chicken sandwich which tasted clean and fresh with all the vegetables (cucumber, tomatoes and onions).  I was very impressed with the white sesame sauce (only found out from the menu later).  My friend and I love the Japanese touch in its taste and thought the white sesame sauce was mayo and sesame oil initially.  Hmm, wonder if they sell it??

Hummus and avocado Sandwich, $8.90 (photo taken by guest photographer, XM)

This goodness and vitamins loaded sandwich came with alfafa sprouts, cucumber, tomatoes and lettuce did not sound all too appealing at first.  However, I totally enjoyed it!  I wonder if it is the ambience of this cosy cafe or the way Onaka combined the ingredients.  Everything tasted just so well-balanced.  For people who are chickpeas phobic / vegeatables phobic, this is one good sandwich to start!

Green Tea Gelato, $4

Onaka currently has an opening promotion (tea/gelato for each meal ordered, limited period, while stocks last), we tried the ginger tea ($3.50) and green tea gelato ($4) for FREE!  Ginger tea was strong enough for me and the faint scent of gula melaka can be quite addictive.  The texture of gelato was rather grainy and nice!  I always like smooth gelato and didn't realise till today that grainy texture can be very naturally yummy as well!

Onaka is a quiet and charming cafe.  Its prices are reasonable (no service charge, no GST).  The staff were pleasant and helpful.  There is a small corner which sells organic product and I got a bottle of Meridian organic peanut butter for just $6.  Onaka is beyond Eden.

Hmm Onaka looks like a pretty good place to just sit down, chill out and read a good book!
